As I said before, you gotta make an effort to speak spanish, otherwise, there are so many foreign students that it is really easy to speak english all the time. Other than that, Salamanca locals speak good spanish that is easy to understand.

If an erasmus stays with teh erasmus, than he will improve the english before the local language. I recommend to avoid after a first period of adaptation, to join all the local groups you can.

Personal spending habits
My food and accommodation were provided with my scholarship. I spent more on travel and nightlife in the host country simply because I traveled and went out more often than I do at home. Overall it is not expensive to live in Salamanca.
