Personal spending habits
Housing: My rent was expensive for Spain but still cheap for the UK. Travel: I did more travelling then I do in the UK. (I also had to catch to bus to the engineering school). Bus/train tickets have a more-or-less constant price , in the UK the prices change for singles/returns advance purchases special offers etc. If you are lucky travel can work out cheaper in UK but it is usually more expensive than Spain.

Personal comments
You have to buy copies of the lecture notes. The plus side of this is that they are usually have better quality/content/presentation. Buses from Madrid/Barcelona are much cheaper than the train.

Academic
Course recommendations
I found the 5th year courses easier than the 3rd and second year courses. The classes are smaller, they tended to be coursework based and more interesting. Go for option rather than compulsory modules.

Personal comments
No printer (that I could find) in the whole of the engineering school! The lecturers are helpful and put a lot of time into teaching, but the general facilities/support for students is poor.

I wish I had known...
A bit more academic information would have been helpful as then I would not have picked some of the modules I ended up taking.

Personal recommendation
I would give a thumbs up - it hasn't got the highest academic standards and the lack of facilities could be a problem for some people but Erasmus is about much more than learning academically.

Final comments
This was my only choice of University to study at but a have no regrets about going there. Zaragoza is a great city full of great people. I felt very much at home there. Take full advantage of what Zaragoza has to offer - too many students complained of there not being anything to do - there is plenty on if you look hard enough!

Languages
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your Spanish?

My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)

Personal comments
The jump from studying the language to living the language was huge. Even though I have a spanish A level I would have been lost without attending two intensive courses, one in the summer beforehand and the other in the first few weeks of term. Making the effort to avoid speaking English and "ERASMUS spanish" helped me improve a great deal.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
I had a great time in halls so why would I want to change? More people to talk to in halls than a flat.

Personal comments
The hall "Santa Isabel" was in my opinion the best bit of the university. Well organised and staffed with lots of activities/parties put on throughout the year. Cleaned spotlessly twice a day. Good location on the main campus. I made the effort to make friends with the Spaniards and they welcomed me as one of their own.
