You really have to make an effort to meet french people. Joins clubs and go out a lot and try and meet a few good friends, because they're the ones that will help you learn the language.

Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.

My level before: Basic phrases
My level after: At ease in most situations

Personal comments
I made a lot of improvement, because I worked in a French highschool. Most people make a lot of progress, but I knew a lot of people that only learned a few phrases by the time the left. It just depends on your motivation.

Personal spending habits
I saved some money to spend while I was abroad. I wanted to have fun, so I spent more than I normally would if I was home. I would say that cost of living in France is comparable to the cost in the US. Except for the nightlife, which can be really expensive in France.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It's a great way to save money. Everyone is different. If you can live in an apartment in your home country you can do it abroad. It's not that different.

It's difficult to find good housing that's cheap. It's like everywhere, if you willing to spend a little more money you will have a better place to live.

Personal comments
O'caralan's is a great Irish pub, but really expensive. Nightlife in general is really expensive. There are some deals on student nights, but it's usually expensive. The only places that I've found that are more expensive are in Norway, Sweden, and NYC.
