We always went to 'La Scala' or 'El Sombrero'(at least I think that was the name) and a Irish Pub. These places were good for dancing and meeting people. We havent noticed any special events in the city.

(Maybe I'm pretty critical. I always compare things with the situation at my home university. I suppose people can't complain about Lille1 but in some cases Ghent is better. ;) )
Ask French students if you can copy their notes. I'm sure it will be fine for them. (As most of the times there you only have to study your notes, it is important to have good notes of course.)
