Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I like the freedom of living in an appartment where I can come and go when I want and make food at any time. I like to have 2 or 3 flatmates, otherwise I think I would be a bit lonely. However I don't like to be surrounded by lots of other student appartments as it can be a little too noisy.

In the first semester I stayed in an appartment in an area of university appartments on Via Monte Cengio. Unfortunately these appartments were very big with 10 or 11 students in each, they were old and in need of repair. I should mention that they have now been refurbished. In my second semester I stayed in a private appartment on Via Pietro Canal which was sublett to the university. It was great, and the ratings I gave for my accommodation apply to it.

I loved being in the dorm environment. It put right in the middle of Italian students and gave me an excellent opportunity to meet new people and polish my language skills.

I stayed in a dorm apartment. I had a single room in an dorm/apartment that housed 11 other girls with me (there were both single and double rooms in this housing arrangement.) We had four bathrooms, one kitchen, and common area. The kitchen had four refriderators, two stoves, and each of us had our own cabinet to store food. The kitchen was also stocked with dishes, pots and pans, and utensils. All rooms were furnished and provided sheets and blankets. It was perfect for someone like me who would only be staying temporarily.

Why?
I would choose to live in an apartment/house as I would go with a different purpose. Campus is very good for a student life, but as I am trying to do an internship and then a job, I think an apartment would be more appropriate.

The housing I was offered in Ceccarrelli, was one of the bests I could get in Padua in a campus. I was very good impressed about it, and I consider it perfect for a student life. The only thing I could complain about, was the internet facilities, which were limited. But I think this is a problem that could be solved pretty easy.

SASSA (the accomodation service of the university) was very helpful. You can find a room for betwenn 250.000 and 500.000 Lire. Before choosing to take a certain room you should have a look on the map how far it ist from your faculty and the city center. In my opinion it is no problem to find a room and if the first chosen isn't the right on you can always change.

Because I went there alone and didn't know very much Italian so it was a great way to meet people, both Erasmus and regular students and I had to speak in Italian in order to be understood so I had to pick it up quite quickly.

The accomodation was very reasonably priced although I thought it unfair that the Erasmus and foreign students had to pay more than the regular students for housing.
