Italians are really helpful when you try to learn their language, they are polite, kind and nice about correcting you and they appreciate any effort done. Do not mingle only with foreigners or you will miss an incredible opportunity to learn.

Italian for spanish people is quite easy so you can undrestand everything, but you'll speak really bad: the only thing you have to do is to speak with everybody, don't worry.

In social life you'll cope in the first period in English. Later Italian. In the university basically and most of the time Italian.

Some teachers spoke pretty fast and it was hard to get what they were saying, but with everybody else, language was no problem
