Again, I would have to say that in three months time, you definitely cover a good two semesters of Italian. The best thing is to expose yourself to the language before studying abroad (sit-in on an elementary class), which is what I did. I noticed an immense improvement in my understanding and speaking comfort that I did not have while taking Italian courses at my home university. You really start to THINK in Italian, thats the difference.

I learn, speak and understand Italian more than I ever expected to in the time period I was given. But it was not EASY! It was a choice inside and outside of class, to actively work on it, at every second. It was a decision to put myself on the line, to speak -right or wrong, and learn as I went along. I learned just as much if not more outside the classroom- at bars, at restaurants, and with friends.

It wasn't that difficult to learn a language I'd not study never before as thankfully it's pretty similar to my mother toungue. So I was able to catch it up very quickly and become at ease in many social situations. Above all, the understanding came very quickly and even before than getting a fluent speaking level.

Before the summer course on economics and commerce,I was a little bit worried.Because I thought my level was not high enough. But the teachers helped us on our vocabulary and we had the time to improve it in 3 months.

I lived with 5 other English speakers..although it was great fun, I didn't learn as much Italian as I could have if I had lived with Italian students.
