At the beggining I didn't know so much german, but as the University offered some intensive courses before each semester and some courses during the semesters I could learn german grammar and vocabulary. Something that really helped me to improve my german was interacting with other german students, I enrolled on the university choir and I could meet some of my german friends.

You did learn a lot of the language but it was all packed into such a small amount of time that it was hard to keep up sometimes.
