Pau is a nice city, even though there are palm trees it still gets VERY cold.

Take advantage of the mountains. Hiking in the summer, skiing is great in the winter.

Lots of bars on the boulevard. Its great if you are looking to meet other expats. There are other places in other parts of town that are better for interacting with locals.
