Chambery has lots of pubs/bars, often Irish/English-themed. Drinks are often expensive in bars (at least 5€/pint) but cheap in supermarkets.
The clubs (Opera and Cocktail) are expensive (10€ entry, often 8€ per drink), and both play music best described as "cheesy dance crap". Slightly more enjoyable are RDC (dance) and Corsaire (salsa night on Wednesdays, to which many Erasmus students went). No clubs play rock/reggae/hip-hop etc, and concerts are very rare in Chambery.
Chambery has a few cinemas, mostly playing independent films rather than commercial ones.
The university arranged several coach-trips to neighbouring towns and regions such as Lyon, Turin and the Alps for skiing; these were usually interesting, and good value (although trains were good value too; see www.voyages-sncf.com).

Charlies was fun and next to student accomodation so generally good for meeting other students. The Irish bar on the square was always livley and packed, expecially in summer when they get the outside tables and chairs out. This was also a good place to meet people. For a quiet drink, there is a bar on every corner. It would generally be the Erasmus students filling the bars, with the French students coming out at the weekends.

The best place for a party is your own home, though a good meeting point is the irish pub located close to "l'Esplanade de l'Europe".

Best Indian Food: Les Nuits Indiennes.
Fun exercise/swimming pool: Le Buisson Rond.
Lots of hiking spots!
Chambery is close to Italy and Switzerland. Bakeries are everywhere - all of which are the best :)

O'Cardinals is a very friendly bar where they are open to students and particularly like the exchange students coming over. RDC is a good place for a dance, but the bouncers can be quite "difficult".
