In few months (speaking spanish quite almost all the time) I spoke fluent spanish and day after day I improved till learning colloquial expressiomad some dialect as well

Try to get housing in "el barrio" which is the old part of town, which is the most beautiful and also most vivid part of the city. Most of the good bars are there too.

My communication experience was good as I knew the language before, I improved day by day my spanish attending the courses during the day and working during the night

As Alicante is quite small, one will not have a hard time missing the main area such as the port area, albarrio, castles etc.

The Erasmus students usually go to El barrio, however if you want to mix more with the spanish El puerto is your best bet.
