Personal comments
In the beginning it was very hard, as the Spanish in general don't speak any English. But this is a good stimulus to learn the language. I also had the luck to live with Spanish girls. So in a short time I learned a lot of Spanish. Unfortunately didn't have time to learn any Catalan.

Personal spending habits
Not because home country is more expensive, on the contrary, Spain is quite cheap. But at life as an Erasmus student is quite sociable, you spent more money and time on nightlife, travel etc. Also the housing was more expensive as the location was very good. Food is definitely cheaper, but you tend to go out to dinner much more often than at home.

I wish I had known...
I wish I had taken care of housing before going there. The actual search took up about 3-4 weeks, which was sometimes very hard.

Personal recommendation
It's a good university. I have to admit the level is not as high as my home university. But with the (initial) language problems, I still had a big challenge to pass my exams. But I managed in the end. Most professors I had were very helpfull in helping out the foreign students.

Final comments
Make sure you've arranged housing beforehand, if not, get there on time to make sure there's still enough time to arrange this. A useful webpage/institution: www.habitatgejove.es Despite the great social life in Barcelona, try to save some money for travelling Spain, as this country has a lot more beautiful places than just this city.

Just go to the first lectures of several courses to see if it is what you want. Then choose. Don't forget to find out whether the course is in castellano or catalan

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
Because this way you get to taste from the real life in this country, especially if you live with local people. You're independent and feel more like you're actually living there.

Personal comments
We were basically instructed to look for housing ourselves. So we never got help from the university.

Well, there's just too much in Barcelona. You'll never be bored there. Some of my favourites: have a drink at Schilling or Cafe Royal, have a bite at Margarita Blue and then go dancing at Bikini, or Salsitas or La paloma... lots of places!
