University College Maastricht has fostered learning & personal growth
Ruben D
Netherlands, Undergraduate
Development Studies, 2020
Overall
University College Maastricht is a fantastic educational programme. It is characterised by an open curriculum, an interdisciplinary study programme, small class sizes (max 12 students to ever tutor) and a strong sense of community with many extracurricular activities. The course catalogue is diverse and in-depth, however, it is still possible to take specialized courses at other faculties.

Maastricht is a good location to travel around. Cologne, Brussels and Amsterdam are easy to reach by plane (about 2 hours).

Overall
Attending the Bachelor of Arts and Culture offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Maastricht University for the past three years has opened many doors for my future interests and career plans. As an interdisciplinary bachelor's program, the courses range from examining the history of Artificial Intelligence Art to exploring the construction of different governments varying from the French Revolution up until now. I thoroughly enjoyed the incorporation of history in all courses, as well as the analysis of different artworks.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
As part of my experience in Mastricht, I would have like to live with non-American students as roomates. However, this was not possible through my home university. Now if I were to go back, I already have friends to live with.

Personal comments
I was quite impressed with the rooms, cleanliness, etc.. I would have liked to have access to an oven and not just a hot plate, however this was only a minor concern. Our rooms were large; some students had to share rooms and others had their own. This appeared to be a random selection. We were very close to the university, perhaps a 2.5 mile walk. I highly recommend studying in Maastricht.

It is a very good University, with a high academic level but sometimes very bureaucratic, be careful with bureaucracy.
