due to the fact that i'm german and german is quite close to dutch, i almost understand 60-70% of the people talking here, but i can't really speak, because my whole group at the university speeks english the whole time, in Macandra (housing) everybody speaks english and the contact to dutch people is quite limited. if you try your best in dutch they either reply in perfect german or english. everybody speaks english quite well, and most of the people speak german.

Learning dutch: only if you have to, or if you're crazy enough to like it! :-)
Improving english: even if it's not your intention, you'll get better for sure, besides EVERYONE there speaks english.

Not all courses are available in english yet. Most people speak very good english or some german. Television is mainly in english.

A big majority of country has the ability to speak/understand english, which makes daily life very easier for a foreigner.

The language here is not a problem at all. Almost everybody speak english and it is not hard for them to understand you.

All the Dutch people seemed to speak fluent English, but fluent Dutch was expected when applying any jobs.
