Multinational Campus and Skilled Staff

Évaluation globale
I am a third year history and international relations student in University of Aberdeen. I am originally from Finland but it was clear to me since quite a young age that I want to study abroad after high school. After three years in Aberdeen, I must say that I am very happy with my choice of uni! The staff is skilled and make the courses very interesting and there are many academics that are ready to offer their guidance should I need it. My favorite thing about Aberdeen uni is, however, the student community. I have made so many good friends through numerous societies and clubs. My favorite is the Surf Society; it is an awesome club with the nicest people, and the Nordic Sea is not as cold as you might think... (provided you have a thick wetsuit). All in all, coming to study abroad in Aberdeen must have been one of the best decisions I have made.

I can't do research and take classes at the same time so I had to add on another year of study at my home university.

The university itself needs to be more organized and less fickle in attitudes towards students. For instance, they they stress that students should be more responsible and act as adults and that they aren't goig to be lead by the hand all the time, but then they do things like check homework and take attendance in classes. The subwardens in accommodations do nothing as far as community goes and residents are largely unmonitored, resulting in loudness at all times of the day, misuse of kitchen areas, drug use, and other things that don't happen as often or as blatantly in US dorms.

Invest in a young person's railcard if you're going to be traveling by train - you get 30% off tickets. Also look into airlines like easyjet and ryanair because they can be quite cheap. STA travel and some other larger travel agencies are good at getting student discounts as well.

Wonderful experience in a small multicultural city

Relations Internationales, 2020
Évaluation globale
The experience overall was fantastic. There were people from all over the world and the classes available were varied and interesting. The university accommodation provided in our first year was very good for making new friends and there were study spaces available all over campus.

All the clubs and societies were extremely welcoming and feeling like a part of a group was very easy. Professors also took the time to get to know each individual student for the most part.

The administration was slow at times, especially during the beginning of the pandemic, but they always had students' wellbeing at heart.

Overall a fantastic experience!

1. Be prepared to have problems, to face them and to learn with them; 2. Relax. If someone does'n understand what you're trying to say, take a deep breath and try another way! 3. Enjoy everything that's new! 4. Leave the preconcepted ideas at home: you don't need them!!

The University of Aberdeen is definetely used to host foreigners, and those doon't feel like complete strangers. Teachers are available, course changes are easy, accomodation is quite easy to find, everything very accessible, etc. Nightlife and weather may not seem as attractive as those of Spain, but you can have a lot of fun, and the contrast between the freezing winter and the blooming spring is wonderful! Besides, there are other compensations: Scotland is a magnificent country, the scottish culture is fascinating, and so on. However, be aware of the cost of life and of the fact that some (a lot?) studying is required all year long (but exams preparation is not very harsh). If you don't forget to take care of your day-to-day work, you won't get stuck in your flat when there's much better to do, and you're going to experience one of the best moments of your life !!!
