The oil industry has driven the cost of living up here in Aberdeen and so goods and services cost more. I also had to pay for a cell phone (the alternative was to pay for a land line) which I don't have to at my home universtiy. Accommodation was catered but they only provided breakfast and dinner, so I had to pay for lunch everyday on top of what I paid for housing/meals already. Normally I wouldn't travel in the State, and if i did I would do it with friends... here I traveled a lot but by myself and on trains.

Everything is quite expensive, even food if you wish to eat healthily. In terms of nightlife, I did go out about town way much more than I would back home. As for housing, I paid for my 6 student flat on campus approximately the same amount as I did for a flat of my own (30m2) in the center of Turku...

Traveling eats up a lot of money, if you're not careful. The again, the main point is to see as much as you can. If you can afford it, go for it!

Aberdeen is ranked the second most expensive city in the UK besides London, likely its because of the oil industry. Be prepared to pay extra.

Everything IS just more expensive than in Belgium, except maybe the food from LIDL... I spent less on telephone calls simply because I called less and because I found a good solution for the international calls. Travel was obviously a more common activity than in Belgium.

Use code-cards for international calls. Buy your food at LIDL. Fortunately enough, everything is at a walking distance from campus

UK standard living is higher than Portugal. However I also wanted to travel a lot, so it is obvious that I spent more money than while I was at home!
