Housing
Type of housing: Student residence
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Student residence
Why?
Living with 20 other students seemed like a nightmare at first but it was the best decision I made. You get to know people so much better and the house parties are amasing!

Personal comments
Uni doesn't usually organise accomodation for ERAMUSers staying for a full year but I managed to get a place at the last minute. This was brilliant but it would have been more helpful at the beginning. Don't worry though cos there is plenty of choice if you do so independently

Accommodation for me was half that of Edinburgh - amasing! I did spend more on travel but only because I did more of it - the actual cost per journey is a lot cheaper.

Academic
Course recommendations
Most people had problems regarding which particular courses to take whilst here i.e. making sure they were going to be acceptable to their home uni's. However, I didn't see anyone not find suitable courses.

Don't crowd yourself with lots of 'harder' subjects if you don't have to - you're in Antwerp to enjoy yourself!

I wish I had known...
I found the speed of adminstrative matters really frustrating and the Belgian's laissez-faire attitude was almost too much for me. A lot of things we needed to know was from other students and not from the uni like it should be. Also I found that Brits tend to be amongst the best mannered of all students here and this was hard to adapt to.

As a native English speaker the only problem I found was to be careful not too use slang too often and really slow down my speech pace. My Scottish accent caused the most problems!
