Communication was fairly good, considering that we pretty much speak the same language. However, sometimes I felt like some English people thought less of us since we were Americans, and they made comments to that effect.

The first weeks were really difficult but at the end was really easy to speak and to talk about me my experieces and my opinions. I was in Bath to write my thesis and at the end of my year I was able to read an english book without problem. All my bibliography was in english.

My overals communication experiece is good. Sometimes people were hard to understand because they spoke with an accent. But overal it was fine.

The improvement of my language skills has been amazing. the most important thing is being in contact during the whole day with english speakers, in my opinion that is the main point.

Do not hesit to meet local people as they won't come to you automatically ! Try to be proactive ;-) go to all the social events, read the papers, watch TV. In a word : go out !
