Since Prague is located in Central Europe, is was the perfect place to travel from to countries such as Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Germany and Hungary. Also, travelling by train under 26 gives right to a discount. Accomodation and food is cheaper than at home, although the prices are higher in high season. Nightlife including dinners, movies etc. is so much cheaper than at home, that it is tempting to do it a lot.

I was aware of the expenses I had. I kept a little book which listed most of my expenses, to keep track of where my money went. Prague is not the most expensive place to live, but travelling does cost some extra money.

The student dormitory was very cheap way to live. Travelling wasn't so expensive but I travelled quite much because Prague is so central in Europe and it's easy to travel from there. I spent the same amount of money for food but I ate more often in restaurants than in Finland.

There are expensive touristplaces in the center (like restaurants) but it's possible to find cheaper ones a bit further from the center.

The Czech Crown has an exchange rate of 25:1 to the US dollar. Everything was very cheap as it is.

Dont eat around the city center, everything is way to expensive because of tourist reasons. Find your way out to Praha 3 and beyond where you will find authentic food that is cheap but quality.

Food was relatively inexpensive, alcohol and houseing were very cheap, nightlife depends on each persons spending habbits, and I travelled alot during my exchange. Overall, I spent the amount I budgeted. It is not difficult to stay within your budget in Prague.

The Czech Republic is a very cheap country to live in for Western Europeans. The prices are still very low but will adapt to Western standards since this country is planning to join the EU.
