The best year of my life was my Master of Laws
anonymous
Finland, Graduate
Law, 2019
Overall
University is meant to be the best years of your life, and while I didn't find that in my undergraduate year at Warwick University, I most certainly found that in Edinburgh. Not only is the historical city beautiful all year round, but the university itself is something to admire. I joined Edinburgh law school in 2018 and encountered some of the most learned professors, who were all very much available and willing to provide help if needed. The student help centre was equally as helpful, especially for the international students. The library was one of the most visited place on campus, and was open 24/7 during assignment or exam time. The actual Master of Laws course itself was highly interesting, especially given I was allowed to design my General Law Course based upon what subjects caught my eye the most. In total, fantastic experience and I would recommend it to anyone. Plus, the Scottish accent is most charming!

I wish I had known...
I wish I had known it would be so hard to go back to find work. It is hard to apply for a work visa and I can not seem to find any information on how to get back. I had the most wonderful experience of my life and would love to work and live in another country in the future.

The University is wonderful and full of knowledge. If I had one personal recommendation it would be to upgrade the technology. It was hard to log on and off of the internet and the best PC I could find had Windows 95 on an old operating system. Students need the world at their fingertips.

While living in Edinburgh and attending the University I found an internship. I worked at the Royal Bank of Scotland during my time and received and experience I will never forget. The internship entailed working with their international customers and researching other companies through the Business Balanced Scorecard.

Take hounors courses. The level of first and second year courses could be a bit low if it is your major!

I would recommend the isles f.e skye for travel. The international student centre is a fantastic institution run by students which organises nice excursions and some funny event. You can also be a volunteer for them. In Edinburgh I would recommend you to join one of the hundreds societies - that is a fantastic experience.

I would actually recommend overseas students not to choose a University accomodation since they can fairly easily find much cheaper and nicer housing in the private sector

In a nutshell I have fully enjoyed my year in Edinburgh as much for academic reasons as social ones and I would strongly recommend the place: a vibrant university in a vibrant city !

Amazing start for scientists
Izabela S
United Kingdom, Undergraduate
Chemistry, 2024
Overall
The University is placed right in the center of the city which allowed for amazing work-life balance. The science campus is a bit further away and that makes it a really special place. Personally, I could live in those laboratories since they are properly equipped and the staff is friendly and helpful. The university provides options for independent growth under professional supervision like The Young Researchers Association or Edinburgh Award. The University of Edinburgh is where fun meets excellence. Especially if your personal tutor is as amazing as mine.
