Food was more expensive than in my home town and supermarkets were hard to reach. I met many new people so I wnet out a lot (not more expensive than home). I also travelled a lot, prices were slightly lower than at home.

Don't wire transfer money to the US. There are hefty penalties for overdrafting a US bak account. Get a US credit card for cheap online offers (they usually require US ZIP codes). Take a meal plan, it is way cheaper.

I definitely spent more money on food, because I went out for lunch and dinner very often. I also spent more money for the telephone as rates are quite expensive!

As a student you have to pay a quite high overdraft fee when you come into the red! Be careful!

Travelling is naturally an important part of the experience when abroad. I spent more money for food because in FInland it is very cheap to eat at the University which was not the case in the U of M.
