University of Sheffield

I really enjoyed the courses at Sheffield University, especially one called "Language&Organisations". The other two modules I took were "Organisational Behaviour" and "Business Strategy", which were excellent as well. All these modules were taught at the Management Department and I was very happy about my choice of courses.

As I indicated above, the interaction with the local students was rather sporadic. At my home university at that time (CBS) we had a "buddy"-arrangement which offers international and exchange students a source of contact to a local student throughout their stay in Denmark. The local student would thus pick up the guest student at the airport and make sure that they settled in allright, and so on. This sort of concept might help bridging the gap between exchange and local students in Sheffield as well. Besides this, academic life in Sheffield lived fully up to my expectations.

taking courses in other departments than your own can be somewhat complicated, so you should contact the lecturer early before the course starts and ask whether you can take part in it. also make sure you take appropriate modules as some of them may be too difficult or too easy. the first digit of the module's code tells you in which year you should take it.

everything was well organised, i can't complain.

Be aware that it can be a different way of studying than what you are used to. Also, when you've made your final choice, it is possible to change it within 3 weeks or so. Always check with your teacher. He/She must sign you final choice so you can be registered.

Don't hesitate to join the various clubs of discussing politics, economics etc.

Teaching level in England is much lower than in Germany. The speed of learning and teaching is very slow, everything is explained very often to enable really EVERYBODY to understand. I was disappointed about the amount of things treated in one semester.

If you really want to learn something besides drinking, try to get into the regular classes (instead of those for international students).

All foreign students are in the same English Literature classes, regardless of their level. Stupid. You get graded according to your level though.

Lots of group work-good oppty to get to known British students. Based on writing and critical analysis; must engage genuinely with subjects

Some courses assessed 100% by one exam. Past exam questions are almost identical and may be obtained legitimately.
