Telephone expenses were lower because I hadn't subscribed to a fixed network phone company. Otherwise the expenses were much the same as in Denmark.

Most of the textbooks I used I borrowed from the library, which saved me a good amount of money. I could always count on being able to borrow the books and they were almost always available immediately. The management school has a nice facility that helped me save a lot of money on copies and prints. You just need to buy the copy paper (about 2 pounds for 500 sheets, you could share a package with a fellow student) and use the printers for free! At the time I was there, this was only possible at the management school, as far as I know.

Grocery shops are cheaper than supermarkets! Busses and taxis cheaper, but trains are well expensive. Student clubnights are cheap: Vodka coke for 1.50. Develop your pictures at home. There's a H&M in Meadow Hall. Get a uni sweater at the student's union. Tesco is a relatively cheap supermarket.

Opening a bank account is difficult! Go to NatWest Broomhill. Messageboard in the student union for second hand stuff. IT centres are ussually quite crowded (especially around exams). Try the one at the Economics department, it's a walk but it's open all night.

The prices in England are three times as high as in Munich. When I have been in Sheffield, one pound Sterling was worth 3,5 German D-Marks. So the exchange rate made British money even more expensive than it had been before.

It is a very complicated procedure to transfer money from a German bank to an English bank in an acceptable amount of time. Sometimes, I had the impression that English banks have never heard of how to do that. Everybody travelling to England should have a credit card with her/ him. People pay everything with them in England.

the same food i used to eat at home cost usually more in england. it took me a while to get used to baked beans and other student food, which was actually cheap. night life and travel took more money because i was more active in those fields.

The opportunity to explore the country. Accommodation was much more expensive than in my home country and also the phone bills. Food was about the same, except in reaturants, where the food was quite expensive.

Leave your mobile phones to your home countries, don't eat in the restaurants. But books are a lot cheaper in UK. Try to avoid London,it's mega-expensive (I know, everybody has to visit it!It's cool anyway)

For self catering flats/halls of Residence, if you stay for one semester, you will have to pay the overall amount in October.
