there was no shock. it might have been good to have known some things but it wasn't a bad experience to find out about them on one's own

if you are an international student try to get a room on the CGC-floor (Carolina Global Community) in South Quad. You live with international and American students, they organize trips and events and it's just great. If you like to experience the South of America (laid-back, Southern friendliness and hospitality, but also conservativism and sometimes narrow-mindedness) it's the right university for you.

All in all: IT WAS GREAT! seize the chance to travel around, you will probably never get this possibility again (at least not under these circumstances) don't take too many courses at school! very important. you're there to experience sth. new and see everything, so don't just "waste" your time on studying 24/7

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
I really enjoyed living on campus with other students. This way it was easy to get to know other people and be a part of the american life-style. It was also an advantage in terms of learning the language better and see the american way of living with its traditions and cultures

My accomondation inclded one appartment which I shared with an american girl and a french girl. The appartment had several rooms, such as a living, dining and two bedrooms. As well as a kitchen and a bathroom. I shared my room with the american girl. The whole house consisted of six appartments, three males and three females, and were mixed with international and american students. It was really nice to live this way to get to know other students and feel belonging to the group. All house members were very close to each other. So we all hang out together or made parties or theme evenings and so on.

I have really enjoyed my time at USC, I have met all my best friends and really grown so much as a person. Whether we are spending time at football games, at the farmers market, or at the pool it is always a good time. The night life is also a fun experience in Columbia, SC.
Being in the state capital is another great thing about USC. You are in a city but it isn't so busy that you get caught up in all the hustle and bustle.

The english language has always played a major role in my educational life. I spent a high-school exchange year in the US as well as many holidays. Also choosing to attend an english university in Germany was really important for my fututre career plans. I have no real problems with the english language, wehter in business or in social life. I also have many american friends and I also did an internship in the US and I never had any major problems with the language.
