The round table/tutorial formats took some adjusting to for my line of studies. I enjoyed the intensive conversational style that demanded student attention and participation. Conversely, some of the larger lectures/professors were too remote/inaccessible.

Yes, the international relations courses were excellent. Be careful in language courses, I took a second year class and had to work doubly hard to catch up since there had been great differences between what I had learnt my first year and what the students at St. Andrews had learnt.

It's all very well organised; teachers take care of you as soon as you arrive, and give you plenty of advise about the choice of courses you may want to attend - and then lots of supervision. Just don't be shy - go and ask them whatever you need.

My only minor quibble is that the compulsory course in Mediaeval English - while instructive - seems largely designed to justify maintaining such a large (albeit talented and extremely approachable) staff in the area of expertise.
