I wish I had known...
How much cheaper and nicer the private housing in Sunderland is, compared to living on campus. Secondly, that I would have love to stay there longer!

This is the place for you if you want make friends from all over the world, have loads of fun and in the meanwhile, study some pretty interesting subjects. Sometimes the bureaucratic way of dealing things in the university can be annoying but you just have to patient. Everything happens slower than in Finland.

Sunderland is a great place to live: not too small, not too big. And it only takes about 30 mins to Newcastle by Metro. The weather can be pretty dull sometimes and the wind is very strong occasionally. The city is 3 hours from Edinburgh, so Scotland is worth visiting. If possible, take a laptop with you when you go to Sunderland. They'll get all the student houses connected to the Internet in spring 2004. There are not enough computers in the university libraries, so an own laptop will save you a lot of frunstration!

Overall
It was an amazing experience, as during the course in the Sunderland University I was surrounded by extremely professional and highly qualified module leader and tutors. Thanks to them, I became part of a very interesting study program, which was aimed at expanding knowledge in tourism, namely in the field of hospitality (hotels, restaurants, events etc). A big advantage was that my tutors themselves had enormous experience working on the hospitality industry. Therefore, this allowed them to reveal not only the theoretical components of our specialty, but also the practical, accompanying them with relevant examples. Moreover, practical classes included visiting large hotels. During those classes we were allowed to conduct interviews with managers in order to get more information related to the hotel business and sales. Finally, for my Major Final Project I have chosen a topic "Why Moldova is the least visited country in Europe". This project excited me, as there are not many people that willing to make such investigation. I have received a good grade for my project and was proud of myself.

One of the best experiences I could ask for.

Overall
Not only has University of Sunderland been voted Best New University in the North East (Guardian University Guide 2012), the Department of Law has recently been ranked Best in the UK for Teaching Excellence (Sunday Times University Guide 2012). The teaching staff and tutors have been by our side throughout the whole three years of our studies giving us the best education we could ask for. We also had access to two libraries until late night but also had the online library available 24/7. Regarding the campus, it was very safe with guards and securities and this was something that relieved our concerns for any violence or illegal acts.
