I had difficulty with the Japanese language, but I wanted to learn it more than anything else at the time. This is why I postponed my graduation for a year to come and study. I had some difficulty in the country mainly because I was affraid to use it and make mistakes. Being an English speaker I was able to get away using it all the time so I didnt use Japanese as much as I probably should have. Overall though my abilities has skyrocketed since I went there.

Most of the Japanese do not speak English so all the exchange students are forced to use Japanese, which I consider to be the best method of learning foreign languages. And as my major at university are japanese studies this 1 year in Japan was very useful for me.

The Japanese Language course provided by the programme was enough to communicate in the academic environment, though fairly enough for daily activities.

Except for the MBA course, you really need to speak good Japanese. There are a few foreign teachers that teach in English, but mostly it's in Japanese.
