We rarely saw other international students. I got to speak Czech quite a bit, although in class they taught us grammer, which is pretty useless in 5 weeks. I would have liked to learn more phrases and useful things to say.

The beginning was hard with all the administrative things to take care of with paople of VERY limited English if any, but once I got past that and learned the basics of Czech, language has not been an issue.

Czech is such a difficult language to learn that overall the locals appreciate an effort to speak in it, but assuming they speak English, they'll switch over to that.

Most of the older people do not speak in English language. It's quite hard to communicate with dormitory administrative staff, in the department stores and so on...

At the beginning there is two weeks of Intensive Czech, which helps a little. Most people speak at least a little English and Czech is a very hard language.

Unfortunatly it was not possible to attend a Czech language course, due to clash of subjects. However it was possible to learn prior and during the stay.
