I shared a studentflat at Flogsta with 11 other people, 10 Swedish and 1 Roemanian guy. We shared the kitchen and tv-room, while I had my own room and bathroom. My room gave me the privacy I needed and the bathroom was a real comfortable experience. The room was well isolated which made studying easy. On the other hand you have company by just walking out your room. In short, I was pleased with my accommodation. Note: I did have really nice flatmates but that does not always have to be the case. I was lucky there.

Studentlife in Uppsala happens mainly within the studentnations. There is a nation for each region in Sweden. The nation is run by students who take care of there fellow students. The nations becomes your second home. The parties at the nations are amazing. The week is horizontally programmed, so each nation has its dance, disco or pub evening. That also goes for Fika (tea, coffee and snacks in the afternoon), movie-evenings , etc. Without the nations sweden is to expensive for going out. the thing not to miss, is a real gasque. A fancy dinner-evening with nice food, drinks, singing and afterwards dancing.

Academic
Course recommendations
The courses, course materiaal and teachers were good. The only thing that was a problem at my faculty was the computer facility. I had difficulty finding a good computer.

I wish I had known...
Not really, I would have tried to find a laptop if I had known that there were so little good computers available.

Personal recommendation
I think, Uppsala University is one of the best universities to go to. It was a good university, a rich studentlife and a rich culture. The thing to keep in mind is that Sweden is expensive but there are ways to make it cheaper.

Go see St. Peterburg if you have the chance. The boat to Helsinki is so cheap that you can not go around that and Norway is too pretty to be left out, although I did because I know I will go there eventually.

Personal spending habits
Food in Sweden is more expensive than in the Netherlands. I did not alter my eating habits much. Furthermore I cooked for myself most of the time in Sweden while in the Netherlands I have dinner with other students which reduces the expenses. Telephone: In Sweden I had my own phone. Accommodation: The price of the room was just higher. Nightlife: Okay I did get more out in Sweden, even though I did not know that it was possible. Travel: When you are abroad better take the oppurtunity to see as many things as possible that are nearby.

In some nations it is possible to work in the afternoon during Fika. You don't get paid but after 10 times helping out, you can get a pass with which you can get free food during fika. For travel find someone with a car that is always cheaper. Stand-by flights are another blessing.

Swedish people know there languages and speak English very well. That is why I did not have many problems with communicating. I did follow a course in Swedish and was enthousiastic in the beginning, but the course went too slow and I llost interest. Better said my interest shifted to other more interesting things to do.
