The VIA rail- Canada's major train line gives student's a reduced rate of up to 40% with an STA card. If your visa allows it and you can manage it, work where possible it gives you an added opportunity to meet new people!

Food was somewhat more expensive especially if you ate other stuff than fast food. Within the same city calling someone was pretty cheap / almost for free. Travelling results in larger expenditures than in Germany since the distances you travel are in no relation of what we are used to. However, national flights therefore are less expensive than in Germany.

The system of tuition fees at the university seemed pretty complex. Until now I don't have a clue how they calculate it. I had to spend more on fees than I expected. Also books required for class are quite expensive. However there is good access to second hand books.
