Position Summary
We currently have an exciting opportunity available for an Intern to join the Open Innovation Team here at Samsung.

SAIT-UK is dedicated to supporting the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), a long-term research entity operating under the Device Solutions Division of Samsung Electronics. SAIT focuses on pioneering research across diverse advanced technologies, including advanced materials (semiconductors, displays, and energy), photonics, and future computing.

The purpose of the team is to spearhead European Open Innovation initiatives and strategic partnerships to advance the mission of SAIT. The team fosters research collaborations with universities, research and technology organizations (RTOs), start-ups, and corporate R&D entities to accelerate innovation. Additionally, the team identifies and explores emerging research areas to support the future growth of Samsung's semiconductor business. The team also oversees the Global Research Outreach (GRO) program in Europe, seeding new research opportunities aligned with corporate objectives.

The intern role involves contributing to a subset of SAIT-UK's responsibilities, focusing on key areas as outlined.

Role and Responsibilities

* Oversee Samsung's European GRO activities, including promoting the GRO program to leading universities, addressing inquiries from academics regarding GRO guidelines, and maintaining detailed records of interactions.
* Collect and analyse data and insights on selected technologies as per request.
* Stay informed about the latest technical and scientific advancements in fields relevant to SAIT.
* Identify and engage with promising academics to facilitate discussions and collaborations with SAIT-UK.
* Attend relevant events as needed, documenting key takeaways and insights
* (Additional) If the intern has the capability and interest, it is encouraged to contribute to enhancing the local AI tools

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:
* Ideally a PhD or Masters student in material science, engineering, physics or technology related subjects. Bachelors students/graduates may also be considered.
* A reasonable scientific and/or technical background.
* Experience in technical report writing to effectively capture and convey key insights from the latest scientific and technological trends. This involves summarising the 'what' and 'so what' of a topic without requiring expertise in every field.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Desirable:
* A genuine curiosity about deep tech ranging from quantum computing, photonics, semiconductor, material AI and physical AI.
* An interest in, and some understanding of, the European tech ecosystem
* Strong skills in online research and the ability to sift through large volumes of data to identify the most relevant and valuable information
