Job Description:
We are seeking highly motivated and technically proficient Cellular Signalling Testing Applications Engineer to join our customer-facing technical team for Apple in Germany. We are looking for an engineer with deep understanding of 3GPP 4G LTE and 5G NR cellular protocol and strong object-oriented software development practices. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills and excellent communication to ensure customer success and drive product adoption for the growing Instrument Engineering team at Apple. Our small team of extraordinary engineers designs and produces precision RF test equipment for use in calibrating and testing cellular, WiFi, BT, mmWave, UWB and NFC radios in millions of iPhones, iPads, Macs, Vision, Watches and AirPods. All members of the team bring their own unique expertise to collectively take internal Apple products from concept to mass production. Each internal product is designed to Apple's exacting standards resulting in test equipment that maintains the quality, accuracy and function of commercially available offerings. All applications must be in English.
The role involves working very closely with cellular development engineers as a local technical expert of our internal RF test equipment. The candidate will be supporting end users from early engagements to feature delivery. The role will help customers design, validate, and troubleshoot complex wireless devices and networks. The candidate is expected to build relationships with engineering teams and conduct demonstrations, technical presentations, workshops and early engagements.
In-depth understanding of 3GPP cellular standards, particularly 5G NR and LTE (including physical layer, MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC, NAS protocols) Strong knowledge of RF fundamentals, wireless system architecture, and common RF test methodologies Hands-on experience with wireless test equipment such as network emulators, protocol testers, signal generators, spectrum analysers, and vector signal analyzers Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Python, C#, C++, MATLAB) for test automation and data analysis Excellent communication and presentation skills both verbal and written with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and succinctly to diverse audiences Bachelor's degree is needed, and we highly value Master's or above. Relevant disciplines include Electrical Engineering, Maths and Physics.
Experience in test and measurement platforms (e.g., Keysight, Rohde & Schwarz, Anritsu) Familiarity with other wireless technologies (e.g., IoT, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) Experience with virtualisation, cloud-native architectures, or Open RAN concepts in a testing context Recent experience using signalling cellular test equipment Recent work experience in applications engineering or pre/post-sales engineering and experience working closely with customers
