Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I lived in student accommodation where most of the other ERASMUS students lived, which was great because it made it easy to get to know people. But I think if I were to go back I would like to live in a private apartment with Germans, to get to know more Germans.

I really liked the location and I had loads of space. But sometimes I got a bit lonely, especially during the winter months, because it was a studio apartment and I prefer living with other people. However, it wasn't too bad as everyone else was in the same situation so once I settled in and got to know people we were always in each other's apartments.. couldn't get rid of them!

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
There were so many people living there, it was hard not to bump into people and make friends. Also living in student accommodation off campus meant spending time with "real" Germans/German speakers and not with English people. I had no choice but to speak German.

The housing was excellent. It's ran by a very efficient landlady, who is always on call if anything goes wrong. You have a reasonable sized single room with a sink. There are toilets and shower in the corridors and enough, so that you're never waiting for them.

All university accommodation is pretty good and well maintained. YOu can chose to either live in a room on your own (cooking facilities provided) or share with 2 other students(-I shared with two Germans). The accommodation was clean and a lot cheaper than at home.

I was placed in a 'Wohngemeinschaft' where I lived with two native Germans. This gave me the chance to make friends and practice my language immediately. The campus accomodation was also excellently serviced with gymnasium, washing facilities, it's own website, music practice room and many other facilities.

It was great value and really nice accomodation. I was sharing a flat with two other German girls who I got on brilliantly with but I can see that if you didn't get on so well with your flatmates it could be difficult.
