Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT)

Just arriving Dublin we had some problems with the language since english language spoken by irish people is sometimes hard to understand,but day by day you get used to it and then you take their way of speaking as well.Complementing the International Business and Languages Course we had "English for academic purposes" at different level and that´s was really helpful for us.Interacting with with foreigner students and irish people when that was possible was a very important to improve our english.

My language experience in Dublin was very hard at the beginning because when I arrived in Dublin my english was not very good and the Dublin accent is very strong, but after one year living and working in Dublin, my knowledge of the language improved and I started my Degree at University, where I had not a lot of problems with the English because I had already been living in Ireland for one year.

Even though I am half french and half dutch, I have lived in England in the past and have had an english education since the age of 8. My English is just as good, perhaps even better, than my French (mothertongue), so I did not have any problems during my exchange speaking with locals, teachers, foreign exchange students and local students.

it's very important with who you've in contact, if you live in a shared appartment try to get foreign roommates and try to get in contact with other foreign students and local ones, anyway teachers aren't difficult to understand in contrast to classmates, this can turn out to be a good guess

At the beginning I wasn´t able to speak nor to understand. But at the end I was able to make myself clear in any situation, also to have long conversations with anyone. And people said that I had a good level of english.

As I came in January and started studying it was sometimes difficult to understand irish accent, but after a while I got used to it and it didn't cause any problem in communication after that.
