You can get money from the French government to help you pay your rent. You have to go to the "caisse d'allocation familiales (CAF)" for that. At school they will certainly explain you what to do.

Obviously international calls are more expensive so I spent more on those in order to keep in touch with friends and family. Accomodation rates are a lot cheaper here than at home.

I spent a lot of money on the telephone to England! I also spent more money taking the ferry home to England during the holidays etc. I also found the social life more expensive as there are no student union prices!!

Before you open your bank account or if you use your English account, be sure to take out large amounts of money at one time to avoid being charged too much! Also, as soon as you have organised your nack account and your accommodation, apply for your CAF as it is very useful! (Don't forget to ensure you have all the necessary documents!)

The prices of food, accomodation and telephone are higher than in Germany. For nightlife and travel I spent more because I went out more than in Germany and I travelled a lot to discover the region.
