Personal recommendation
Regarding the quality of my studies I would recommand it to everybody. The equipment of ESSEC is very good and there are a lot of student association. The sport facilities are excellent (there is nearly no sport unpossible) and the students pub Foy's is a nice place to have a pint or two. The school is the top business school in France and has an important alumni network. Over 30% of students are from foreign countries and therefore the athmospere is very international.

If using Thalys ask for a "Mini" price. This means you pay less but you have to fix when you want to return in advance. No possibility to change traveling hour.

I wish I had known...
Due to the location of the halls of residence (10 minute train journey from the university and 40 minutes from central Paris) if a train or tube strike was taking place I was often stranded in the halls of residence.

The staff and local students are very welcoming and strive to ensure that exchange students have a fulfilling and rewarding experience. There are plenty of sporting and social activities organised by the BDE (student union), and obviously the location being in Paris was a major bonus as I fully explored the city.

The year in Paris was without doubt the best year of my life an I can safely say the same for the vast majority of other exchange students on the ERASMUS exchange. The extra money added onto the student loan for the year and the ERASMUS grant enable travel around Europe. I recommend going Interrailing around Europe during the half term breaks and booking the tickets earlier saves a lot of money.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
The student residence is near to the campus and the costs are favorable. Although Cergy is not the nicest place to live the community of foreign students compensates a lot.

For foreign student of any partner programm of EPSCI or ESSEC accommodation is organised by the administration. There is of course the possibility to choose an accommodation by own but this is quite difficult. Cergy is just half an hour by RER from Paris but living there is very expensive.

The year abroad greatly improved my language and communication skills. With every course taught in French we were given every opportunity to practise and improve our language skills. Furthermore, the various social and sporting events enabled me to interact with local students, many of whom I still keep in touch with which allowed me to pick up on various slang phrases. On top of this interaction with the other ERASMUS students proved more than useful. As well as forging great friendships, I was able to work on my Spanish.

How difficult (impossible) it would be to get a job next to studying in France. They all want you to work fulltime, whereas a student can simply not spend 40 hours working, and as much studying.

Save up beforehand, and simply go with the flow. Go to the parties, and enjoy the social life as well as studying.

Most of the exchange students stayed in these residences and that gives a very good atmosphere. The prices were slightly high, but the room you get is really good.

I think that except for the high prices it was excellently arranged. Oh, don't get confused by the administrative pile you have to fill in at the beginning, that's simply the French way I think.
