Living with a German family was both difficult and rewarding, and I'm thankful to have done it. The experience has made me want to work abroad in a number of capacities.

You got to know people and it was cheap. I only wish I could have lived a little closer to the city centre, although I was pretty close to university.

They had very strict rules when you moved out, but other than that it was a good place to stay. It had a garden around the house, and I had very nice neighbours. I shared the bathroom with my next neighbour, and had a room for myself which contained 20 kvm. or so. There was a kitchen for the people on the floor, it had a refridgerator, but no freezer. The dorm hat many activityrooms, including a tv and billiard, washing room and training room as well as practicing room if you played in a band. There was a shop just around the corner.

While I honed some language skills through living with a German family, the members of the family were not exceedingly social and remained mostly quiet during meals, leisure time, etc. The adults did not make much money as sustainable developers, and were terrible alcoholics. The histrionic behaviour of their two children demonstrated how neglected they felt by their parents. Yet, the location was great and by the end I was spending more time out in the city practicing German and less time at the home.

I think that if yo want to really improve your language skills and get the most out of your experience abroad then it is often best to live with a family.

The housing was great. I shared a kitchen and bathroom with people from all over the world. The area was safe and clean and not too far from the 'centre'.

It was quite a good experience but the building was in the suburbs and it wasn't easy to reach the university and the centre of the city. There weren't a lot of activities or facilities there availaible for the hosts
