Language and communication for me wasnt a problem because I am bilingual. If you have no idea about the language, academia will be worst for you even though it's bad even knowing the language. So learn it before you head there. My only problem was dealing with the French condescendence. They would always make fun of my accent, comment about it, always a subjust for conversation and that bothered me. They also made fun of the french canadian's accent. Keep in mind that they don't accept differences to well and that people that are supposed to know the language (ei, past colonies) are seen as inferior on many level. Also keep in mind that those 20-21 year olds are quite immature so weight in all factors.

It has been pretty good but I don't know why I had to answer twie the same block of questions regarding the improvement of my language skills. We had a Franch intensive course in the first month. Then we had a regular course with a tremendous stupid teacher, who epitomises "The Stupid, The impolite". Good learning by attending regular courses (not so much via French courses)

Most of the students knew English so I improved my English language skills more than the French ones. The problem is that if you want to really learn another language, you have to force yourself to try to speak, no matter how bad your language is. But I am a kind of person who chooses the easier way. :)

The experience was simply amazing. I had taken up the exchange program with an aim to improve my French, but my success exceeded my expectations. The students and teachers understood English but by the end of the year, it was easier explaining somethings in French than in English (which I am well versed in!). Also, there was a huge exchange student community which was also determined to learn the language which helped a lot in interaction.
