Social events within the university itself were difficult -- foreign students were discouraged from joining societies with the normal students.
Due to Kansai Gaidai's close proximity to Osaka, however, there's plenty of things to do.

Not being in a host family hindered me. Not having a compatible speaking partner also hindered me. Having a class that was just repitition and never actual original speech hindered me. Me being shy also hindered me.
