Personal Statement - Alessandro Ponsone
Alessandro P
Italy, Graduate
Engineering, master's degree in industrial engineering, 2019
Overall
I am a graduate of Liuc – UniversitÓ Carlo Cattaneo in Industrial Engineering, Healthcare System Management. Since I first started the degree in Industrial Engineering I knew that I was going to specialize in the Healthcare sector mainly for two reasons: because it have a direct impact on people’s lives and because is a sector that is growing rapidly and requires very specific managerial and organizational skills.
During my Master’s degree I had the opportunity to follow classes that truly interested me, such as: operating models of companies in healthcare, health technology assessment, production, supply chain and others. Throughout this degree I followed all the possible classes that were taught in English, not only to improve my language skills, but also to get familiar with the various terminology that is crucial for anyone who wants to work in today’s international business environment. This is what drove me to take part in the Erasmus program during my last year of my Master’s degree at MCI-Management Center Innsbruck, in Austria.

During my university career I won 3 merit awards for being one of the top students in my class, moreover I was one of the first students to complete their studies, while also achieving the score of 110 cum Laude.
One of the mandatory requirements for the completion of my studies was to take part in an internship. I worked at the I.R.C.C.S San Raffaele Turro where I performed an integrated analysis of the performance of the operating rooms and operating units, putting into practice the concepts learned in the master's degree courses.
In the fourth year of my university studies I expanded my knowledge within the Healthcare field by attending an advanced training course in Health Technology Assessment.

Pros
The most positive thing in my university was that in the courses there are not many students so it's easier to understand the class, ask questions and establish good relationships with collegues and Professors.
Cons
i do not have cons to say. The worst thing for me was that the university was 1 hour away from where i live.

I do not personally think that this university is a good host for international student because it is a private university and the Italian students are not as friendly as others that i encountered and the university is in the middle of nowhere as some people liked to say.

Travel very light you will not believe the amount of shopping that you will do here and travelling especially when the weather is nice. Don't be shy and don't judge people too early people change when they settle down and usually you will find that they change for the better.

Knowing the Italian language - we (Erasmus guys) were almost isolated from Italians thus it was very difficult to improve our Italian knowledge.

The courses were interesting but did not advance my knowledge. The University is far from bigger cities - we did not have many things to do in Castellanza and this why we had to make efforts to live social life.

It is better to come here to study in your second or third year. If you have a car and a laptop, do not leave them home!!

Maybe it would be better to come to this university in the summer semester because the subject ofert is wider and the weather is much better.
