I couldn't find the right stuffs for me to cook my traditional foods. However, i realise that i'm not a good chef and lazy person to have cooking. In terms of travel, since this is the first time i'm being at foreign country, i have to good around, either to visit nice places or just visit friends

If possible, spend a lot in Kwik Save for foods, because they will give a very good price with the same stuffs. If you want to have a good branded new clothes, please go to Boundary Mills Stores in Colne. You can find Pierre Cardin jacket for only 35 quids and Bally shoes for 20 or less! Otherwise, if you don't need the branded ones, just find out in Charity Shops.

Calling the States was expensive, but worth it. You can get cheaper rates, but our school made us use their plan which was terrible (I live in England at the moment and pay about 5 cents a minute). I went out a lot more and spent a lot of time on the road travelling, so that is why I ended up spending more, but it was worth every penny!

There was no need to buy any textbooks for my year in England because the teachers expect you to use the library, so that saved a lot! Because I lived on campus, I had a bed and everything I needed. I did buy one plate and a set of silverware, but I used my flatmates' pots and pans, so it wasn't very expensive.

There was no telephone, so it wasn't an issue. Food is very inexpensive at local markets. I spent more on travel just because I wanted to experience other areas, but local transportation is reasonably priced.

Since there's not a whole lot to do around Lancaster, you probably won't go thruogh your money too fast. There are some decent places to eat on-campus, and the local markets are really cheap.

Compared with France: the UK is hugely expensive. Lancaster (which is a small town) is as expensive as Paris !!!! A room in Lancaster costs a little bit more than a room in Paris. The food is VERY expensive especially if you want some fresh food (vegs, meat, etc). Travel is not so expensive but for the same price you get more in France. To sum up, the only thing which is cheap is clubbing and beer (in Lancaster, not in London) and overall you constantly have this feeling that you spend too much money. However, it is easy to get a student job to get pocket money and the UK is worth the expense.

Accomodation: more expensive than in France and food: because you often buy products you are used to in your home country however it is not the same price at all !!!

The UK is definitely more expensive than the rest of Europe, especially for food, housing and cigaretts/alcohol (except beers)

I was surprised by the extremely high prices of student text books (compared with France). Hopefully, most of them are easily accessible at the library and you are not obliged to purchase a copy.
