Housing is more as I live with family at home. Food is slightly more expensive in Finland than in Scotland. Alcohol is very expensive in Finland but most people drink at home before they go out. Save money by making your own wine !
You can travel everywhere in town by bike. If you dont want to use a bike though the bus is very expensive unless you buy a pass.

Food = ca. 10% more expensive than Austria, but if you go to Lidl, or if you know the supermarkets well enough, you dont necessarily have to spend more than at home. Although: Meat, fruits and vegetables are more expensive than in AUT.
Telephone: Bring your phone and buy a simcard here, it's ridiculously cheap! in 5 months i used 30 euros! (but of course there is skype at well:) )
travel: i spent nearly all of my money for travelling: stockholm russia (st.petersburg and moscow), within finland, 5days through norway to northcape.
i just dont travel that much during the semestre at home.
there's lots to see!

Finland is comparing to the Czech Rep. very expensive, the exchange rate of CZK/euro is very high. Without grants is Finland nearly impossible country to visit.

Cost-saving tips:
1) buy the selected brands of food (EuroShopper, Rainbow, Pirkka),
2) Alcohol is better to bring or to buy on trips to Tallinn or Russia :)),
3)Common trips are cheaper.

- We found a special offer at Kolumbus phone operator, that we could speak with any Kolumbus pre-paid card owner with 1 cent/minut.
- The bank (Nordea) takes no fee when you withdraw money from the minibank, or when you pay with your card. Very nice. I don't know what is their profit :).

I spent more money than at home. Money from ERASMUS and home school is not enought, maybe if you are saving money it is enough.

Very expensive beer and food. You can save money by taking a bread from student restaurant.
