You'll be in Kawasaki City not actually Tokyo but Tokyo is REALLY close by train. Tokyo is probably the coolest city on earth in my book so you can find all kinds of places there. The Raj Mahal in Shinjuku (South Exit of station) has really great Indian food for around 30,000 Yen for a course. In Kawasaki itself check out くら寿司 (Kura Sushi) awesome hightech sushi joint as well as Ootoya (next to Mukogaokayuen station).

Overall
I wish I had known...
As the other reviewer said, learn your hiragana and katakana before you go- the pace of learning can be very fast and the workload heavy without them.

In Shinjuku there is a fantastic restaurant called Gyuukyuu, it serves delicious yakitori. A good place to go to dance is Harlem, a club in either Roppongi or Shibuya. Tokyo is absolutely amazing, there are so many places to go, so much to see, I loved it with a passion. The thing I miss most is the food! Amazing. Although it is quite pricey and the portions are small.

Academic
Course recommendations
The long hours in the classroom can be exhausting, and a bit counter productive. If you are sick and miss a test it will affect your grade, even if you have doctor's note. However, this is normal in Japan.

The 'cultural' course involves some trips around Tokyo, but also some very badly taught 3 hour lectures about Japan, some by ex-pat Americans, others by Japanese lecturers with poor English language skills. Avoid if you can.

I'd studied Japanese seriously for about two years prior to going. So it was actually very convenient for me. I know my Japanese definitely improved and I now speak with much more confidence than before.
