Don't miss the opportunity to travel around Sweden, Norway, Finland, Russia and the Baltic countries, you won't regret it! Just remember that Finland is the "cheapest" country and Norway the most expensive one (Sweden stands in between!).

When would you ever have the time to study in an environment like htis: -20 in winter, lots of snow and northern light, midnightsun in summer! There are about 300 international students there and they are all right to be there! The international office takes good care of you (travelling, parties)and you learn a lot here...academically and personally!

Overall
I’m currently studying medicine here, and in terms of the program itself, everything is well-structured and meets expectations. The education is solid, and academically, I have no complaints. However, one aspect that had a significant impact on me was the social environment among the students.
I've found that many people in the medicine program can come across as cold or even a bit unkind — it reminded me a lot of high school dynamics. At first, I thought it was just my class, but after interacting with students from other class, I realized they experienced the same atmosphere. There’s often a sense of walking on eggshells when trying to engage with classmates, which makes it difficult to form meaningful connections.
So, if you're looking for a tight-knit, friendly group or hoping to make lasting friendships, I wouldn’t particularly recommend studying healthcare in Umeå. But if you're focused purely on the education and don’t mind a more distant social scene, it's definitely a strong university academically.

I wish I knew more about cultural differences between my and host country but it turned out to be interesting anyway. And freezing cold temperatures! Prepare for that!

One of the best periods of my time. This period abroad encouraged me to go on Erasmus internship exchange in Spain and now I want to look for a job abroad as well. Made me more independent and widened my horizons in every aspect of life.
