at the beginning you may find it hard to understand the andaluz accent...it sounds funny and sometimes totally different form the standard Spanish. But the locals are great and help you out in most situations. Mix with them and do not waste the chance to learn how the Andaluzes speak!

Go on the organised trip to the Sierra Nevada in Jan/Feb with the sports department of the Uni. Very cheap, all inc. Great fun! Nearest beach is salobrena then almunecar. Not beautiful, but beaches nonetheless.

Flying to Malaga is perfectly fine. The bus only takes about 2-3 hours and is only 8 or 9 euro. They even stop along the way for a little break!

The exchange rate was difficult to adjust to at first. Also, you need to buy a mobil phone here. Everyone has one and it is the best way to communicate. I spent 100 euro on the phone and about 30-40 euro a month.
