I studied foreign manguages so that was the main interest of my time in Paris.
Arriving in France without appropriate knowledge of French ist pretty difficult as French people are not at ease speaking English.

I wish I had known...
I should definitely have brought more books with me. English-language books are incredibly expensive in Paris.

My program was not very helpful, so I did not have the best experience, but it was definitely worth it, and Paris is the most amazing city ever!

Overall
The range of expertise of the department is impressive, and one has the opportunity to learn from the best professors. Emploi de temps is adapted to let us work on our mémoire and have a lot of flexibility. A big emphasis is put on individual work; maybe a bit too much: i would call their culture quite individualistic. No assistance or opportunities for international students, although this is also a opportunity to experience this country as it is; one really gets an authentic vision at least.

Personal spending habits
I was in a Salvation Army hostel and paid 1600FF per month for my room, roughly 160 British pounds, so the rent wasn't expensive. Bus passes cost less (for the monthly "abbonnement")than in England.
