Why?
I chose to rent a room in a flat in Venice, the Uni accomodation was on the mainland and I preferred to get the maximum experience of living in such a beautiful city as Venice.

The UNi had accomdation in Mestre, which was the part of Venice on the mainland, which was very basic and like London. Venice (city) is built on a series of small islands and I chose to find accomodation in Venice (city) to immerse myself in venetian life and culture for my full academic year.

During my stay the accomodation for foreign students was not planned for and my initial stay at a casa dello studente was not usual for other exchange students. If one should have the chance to get a room there, be aware that in Venice the shared rooms are especially small.

I would try to find housing in the city center at a private place somewhere. In the student house, there were a lot (too many) of strict rules.

The student house was a good place to live. A bit too many rules and regulations, but not too expensive and very well cleaned. It was a new building and things were arranged well.

the university was supposed to give us help to find housing but was totally unhelpful. Start looking straight away on noticeboards.
