Overall
I wish I had known...
I wish I had made more of an effort to meet spanish people because I really did not have a spanish experience, but rather I had an American experience in Spain. Also, keep in mind that Barcelona is a very big and at times impersonal city... people are not as friendly and inviting as they may be in the south. If you are going to make spanish friends, it is up to you. Finally, Barcelona is not stereotypical Spain... it is Catalunya, which means no flamenco, no bullfights, etc.

Personal recommendation
If you take classes in the Univerosty, then I strongly recommend it because it is beautiful and you will learn a lot. But remember that it is very big so it does not have any type of campus feel.

Final comments
Travel as much as possible, to as many places as possible, and pack very lightly. Definitely study abroad because it is a life-changing experience and you grow up a lot. Be prepared to have culture shocks and expect periods during which you will be unhappy and frustrated with your host city. Be open and adaptable. Make every effort to meet spanish people because that is a large point of the experience.
