I wish I had known...
more about enschede itself. the city is not so great (in my opinion almost every other city in NL of the same size and bigger offers more ), and there is not so much to do. the university is pretty good.

at the university of twente and enschede the knowledge of dutch is not really helpful. don't worry if you don't. here is a student groupt called S.M.I.T. which you can contact all time if you have questions and problems all time. you'll get a personal mentor from them at your arrival, which is very nive they also offer some activities. travelling is mainly by train (connections are ok, proces are ok: they have a pretty good discount card here). you NEED a bike here. without bike you are noone: you won't get friends if you don't get yourself a bike ;-)

I loved my Master's at the UT!
Louisa K
Germany, Graduate
Psychology and Behavioural Sciences, 2021
Overall
The specialization of my master's [psychology of conflict, risk, and safety] was quite special and diverse in its topics. I got a broad insight into topics related to crises, risks, and crime, but also group dynamics and leadership. The atmosphere was very nice as we had good contact with our professors and supervisors. Research and projects were always up to date and embedded in currently critical sociopolitical contexts. Even though the workload was extremely high at times, I enjoyed my studies a lot! Besides, the campus of the UT is a plus!

Buy a reduction card for the trains. Utrecht and Groningen are good party cities for student when you get fed up with the night life in Enschede.

Highly recommended experience at most aspects: academic ,social and personal experience, independence, improving a foreign language (english) and getting in touch with lots of different cultures. About traveling tips, first of all get a bicicle. You can get some nice second hand bicicles on Campus at U-Tecno or by Lili (a Vietnamite guy who buys and sells bicicles). But it's indispensable. As for the train traveling, I highly recommend you to get a discount card as soon as you can. It's valid for one year and you get 40% discount everytime you travel (you get it payed back in just a couple of travels). Personally I'd also recommend you to get the Enschede Pass (E-Pass) that gives you discount in some restaurants and shops, as well as museums and libraries. You can also have free entrance in the best disco in Enschede -ATAK.

It is a very good idea to rent a car for travelling. Among many people it is a cheap option. Try to learn how to cook before coming here.
