Had the feeling that the worst mark a student could get was -B... probably better to make more differentiation with view to performance in class and quality of assignments handed in

Overall
I wish I had known...
No - it was good to adapt yourself to the foreign situation, become more independent and not plan everything in advance at home!

In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
Every class requires a lot of preparation (readings, several assignments) - so it's extremely important to choose just courses you're interested in! Otherwise you'll get unwilling to do all the home assignments and you won't have the best experience/meaning about this semester abroad.

During my experience abroad, I ...
(1) Never – (4) A lot
Became familiar with another culture
Met people from other countries
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies & career
Final comments
Make use of the numerous meetings/activities organised for the students - especially at the beginning you have to go out, communicate, make some friends. Get to know the habits of the locals, celebrate their public holidays/activities (eg Halloween, Thanksgiving,..) and use the free time to travel around

Other sources of funding:
Other
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits
I had no telephone connection -> no costs
As I live with my family at home, of course the cost for accommodation were new for me and being abroad should be used to travel around -> more costs for travelling

Telephone:
was less expensive than at home.
Accessibility of student needs
Second-hand household items
Personal comments
the required books - even on a second-hand basis - are pretty expensive, institutes or libraries are very friendly - easy to check out books but I have to be quick, only limited number of books available!

Languages
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
it took about 3 days to get used to the language and to understand Americans who spoke pretty fluently - but at the end of the term, I had no problems at all. It is a great opportunity to go abroad to speak just the foreign language!!
